Dr. Forest Peterson
Staff Research Affiliate, Center for Integrated Facility Engineering, Stanford University
An academic and a champion of workers' rights: Starting as a young concrete laborer working to build and maintain the public infrastructure, Forest gained respect for both labor standards and collective bargaining.
For over fifteen years, Forest has helped design and plan massive public works. In recognition of his engineering contributions, Forest co-chairs an artificial intelligence subcommittee at the National Academy of Science’s Transportation Research Board.
Forest retains his qualification as a laborer foreman and served as the first County of Santa Clara labor standards investigator. As a result of his dedication, Forest is the elected chair of the Silicon Valley Working Blue Democratic Club.
Educated in a high school occupational program as a blue-collar machinist, Forest continued to a community college public accounting program, an undergraduate state school, and then a graduate engineering school.
